The Kitchen Conversations project will document women's stories and experiences that led them to choose to live in this rural location. We are looking for an experienced Creative Writing Development Worker to produce a book of these stories in written and digital format.
Winchburgh is a traditional mining village. it is undergoing significant change through one of the largest housing developments in Scotland. It is envisaged that the population will grow from 2,800 to 10,000. There is a feeling that village size and community life will be swamped by these developments.
This contemporary heritage project was initiated following an open day held as part of a scoping exercise. A local woman brought two old oil lamps to the event which prompted a fascinating, interesting and thought provoking discussion. Memories flooded back about the hard lives their mothers had when their men worked in the shale mines, brickworks and canals. The heavy work that the men undertook in these developments industries are well documented but there is little record of women's experiences.
This project will bring together women now living in the village to learn about each other's life experiences that shape the women they are today. They will through this project establish a unique record of current heritage for future generations.
