Creative Writing Fellow, Tyne & Esk Writers

Tyne & Esk Writers are looking for a Creative Writing Fellow to visit seven writing groups across Midlothian and East Lothian, providing both group and one-to-one feedback to group members. This is a paid, sessional position of ten hours per week for a period of six months from October 2019 to March 2020.

There are currently seven Writers and two Poetry Groups, spread in locations between Penicuik and Dunbar. The Creative Writing Fellow will visit all groups in accordance with a schedule worked out between the CWF and Tyne & Esk Writers.

The task of the CWF is to encourage members of the groups in their writing (and usually to chair meetings attended) and to give critical feedback to individuals on their work as requested, and as allowed by the hours worked.

This Position is for a period of six months from October 2019 to March 2020. Hours of work will average 10 hours weekly, and evening duties will feature in the schedule. This will be followed by a review, and there is the possibility of a second year’s employment.

A stipend of £600 per month is payable on receipt of monthly invoices plus reasonable out of pocket expenses.

Person Specification/Essential
A track record of publication in one or more of the following: novel-length fiction, short fiction, poetry, scriptwriting or creative nonfiction;
Experience of, and enthusiasm for facilitating creative writing groups in a non-academic context;
Experience of providing supportive verbal and written feedback to writers of all levels;
A creative approach to supporting individuals to develop their confidence and voice;
An ability to use social media to raise the profile of Tyne and Esk Writers;
An ability to work flexibly, with a diverse range of adults aged between 16 and 80+;
An ability to travel to venues around Midlothian and East Lothian;

Desirable
Experience/understanding of the individual and community benefits of creative writing /Experience/understanding of monitoring/evaluation techniques for use in community settings.
