Josephine Butler College: Artist in Residency Opportunity 2022
Deadline: Mon 6 Dec 2021
We are offering an 8 month part-time artist residency (open to writers) based at Josephine Butler College (Durham University). We are also working in collaboration with Waddington Street United Reformed Church (URC) and Durham University’s Curator for Contemporary Art.

We are open to applicants from any artistic discipline (including creative writing), but are particularly keen on a socially engaged practitioner who can work collaboratively to enable people to co-produce high quality artistic outputs.

The theme for the residency is (RE)-EMERGENCE. We are inviting applications from artists working in any discipline (previous incumbents have been photographers, abstract artists, sculptors, and writers) who feel they could work creatively within our college and with partners in the local community. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an artist to develop their own creative practice in a wonderful geographic and scholarly environment.

The residency will run from February 2022 until October 2022. It includes a fixed rate commission (at a value of £3k), free accommodation (in the college), and flexible workspaces.

For the full copy of the brief for the role, and for all other enquiries, please contact College Chaplain Andrew Tinkler:
