The Programme Manager (Participation and Young People) plays a key role in coordinating New Writing North’s Young Writers programme.
The overarching goal of the programme is that as a result of our work, young people have increased capacity to make informed choices about their lives and can fulfil their potential.
In order to achieve this, we run a range of programmes, using a human-centred approach. The activity includes open access programmes, which run year-round in the North East, including young writers’ groups, summer schools, and time-limited projects.
Our targeted programmes work in communities at a scale and intensity that is proportionate to their disadvantage. As part of the targeted programme, we are currently running Young Writers’ City in Gateshead, Newcastle and Sunderland, where we are embedded throughout the year.
We also run a strand of work that aims to provide progression routes for individuals aged 15 – 25. This includes investing in talent and providing professional development opportunities for young people including in partnership with publishers.
