Arts education company, Changing Relations, are seeking to commission a writer committed to socially engaged / participatory practice to work collaboratively with an existing group of young people in Bensham, Gateshead.

The commissioned writer will shape the young people’s individual stories into a collective narrative that will be used in an illustrated book and animation resulting from The Child’s View project.

The project, aims to creatively give a voice to children and young people who may have experienced and / or witnessed domestic abuse, making their voice visible and giving language to a topic that adults who work with young people (such as teachers) can be afraid to broach.

The successful applicant will need to be available between September - Dec 2020 to work with, and alongside, the group to complete the written element of the work.

The ideal candidate will be flexible, resilient and responsive and will be required to lead on the delivery of up to 3 participatory workshops directly with the young people and able to work collaboratively with other creative practitioners. The successful applicant will have excellent communication and written skills and must be able to show evidence of being able to produce good quality engaging written work for a professional publication.

Changing Relations will use the artistic output produced as part of this project to develop a learning programme and pilot delivery with a range of audiences, including young people and professionals in educational and community settings.

We are committed to offering work to artists and practitioners at different stages in their careers, including emerging artists and recent graduates. We are interested in hearing from writers who have recently published work and who have experience of facilitating creative and engaging workshops with young people.

We are particularly interested in receiving applications from writers already living / working in the North East and are keen to receive applications from a diverse range of candidates.
