We fully appreciate that the challenges facing artists are not just financial, and so this call-out is for those that feel they currently have the capacity to be creative. This opportunity is also about celebrating our exceptional national culture whilst raising money for our freelance community who are experiencing drastic economic and emotional hardship.

Scenes for Survival is a crisis responsive online artistic project announced in association with BBC Scotland and BBC Arts' Culture in Quarantine project along with some of Scotland’s leading theatres and theatre companies. It will be formed of short extracts, mostly taking the form of monologues that celebrate Scottish playwriting, up to 5 minutes in length, presented on our online platforms for audiences across Scotland and the world.

We are inviting submissions from professional playwrights who are Scottish or based in Scotland to write new monologues written/created in English, Gaelic, Scots or BSL, which will be filmed by actors in isolation, with support from a director.

The selected writers will receive a commission fee of £750 for the work to be presented across National Theatre of Scotland’s online platforms and those of our associate partners and potentially BBC Scotland online/BBC Arts as part of BBC Arts’ Culture in Quarantine project.
