Writer in Residence (Hastings), East Sussex County Council
Deadline: Wed 18 Oct 2017
We are looking to appoint a Writer in Residence to celebrate the reopening of Hastings library in Spring 2018 as part of Advantage East Sussex, funded by Arts Council England

The aim of the Writer in Residence is to foster positive and lasting relations between children and young people in Hastings and the new library. Hastings has the most deprived areas within East Sussex, where children’s life chances are significantly reduced. The Writer in Residence is expected to reach an audience of at least 1,000 people.

We anticipate that the Writer in Residence will:

•Engage with children and young people in the Hastings area
•Build relationships with schools and other organisations
•Promote Hastings library and the library offer within East Sussex
•Produce a piece of writing (in any form) which can be shared with the residents of Hastings, and which can be a lasting legacy of the Writer in Residence programme.

A writer (or writers) with a proven track record of engaging hard to reach groups will be selected, via a competitive process, to develop an ambitious programme of engagement and events. The appointed Writer in Residence is expected to commit to 40 days (including some Saturdays) between January and March 2018. The total artist fee for this residency is £7,500. The residency is expected to be completed by 31 March 2018.

Please submit:
•A short bio outlining your publishing history, your previous works or residencies and why you wish to undertake this residency.
•A proposed plan of works (no more than 1 side of A4).
•A representative piece of work (in any form) of around 500 words.
