York Library Services Right to Read Project Officer

Project Officer wanted to stimulate the enjoyment of books and reading for young people and their carers.
£15,741 - 17,265 pro rata : 355 - 389 per month (pay award pending) 10 hours per week. Two year fixed term contract from April 2002. City of York Council Libraries and Children's Services have secured funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation to run a two year Right to Read project for young children looked after in public care. We need an enthusiastic Project Officer to co-ordinate the scheme and organise a series of exciting, fun events and activities which will stimulate the enjoyment of books and reading for young people and their carers. You will be based with Library Services, but work largely on your own initiative and with colleagues in Education and Children's Services, particularly the Quality Protects Planning Officer. Ideally you will have experience of reading development work in libraries or education, but applicants with a willingness to apply transferable skills are welcome. You should have a degree or equivalent, some experience of working with children and families and an understanding of the value of this work.
