Working as a poet in education and community settings
Sat 31 Mar 2012 to Sat 31 Mar 2012
Introductory workshop exploring how poets can work in schools, the community, health and social care and prisons, open to poets living and working in Scotland

FULLY BOOKED - WAITING LIST ONLY

Saturday 31 March 2012, 1 – 5pm

Sandeman House (home of the Scottish Book Trust), Trunk’s Close, 55 High Street, Edinburgh EH1 1SR

Presented by The Writer’s Compass, NAWE in partnership with Scottish Book Trust,  the Scottish Poetry Library and Glasgow Live with investment from Creative Scotland

Are you interested in exploring how poets can work in schools, the community, health and social care and prisons, and how you might combine this with your writing and other commitments? Gain an insight into what they might be looking for and what you could offer? Find out about where to look for work and how to get experience? Hear from experienced practitioners about their career paths?

This introductory half-day workshop with poets Ken Cockburn, Kate Hendry, Liz Niven and Jayne Wilding (see Facilitator Biogs to the right) will be practical and participatory, with lots of exercises and plenty of time for discussion and networking with other writers in the same situation as yourself. There will be nuts and bolts information and advice about how to get started and develop the skills you need, with printed resource materials you can take away with you.

Who is it for?
This event is open to poets living and working in Scotland at all stages in their career who are either completely new to working in education and community settings or who are already working in some settings and would like to find out about others. (This is not a skill-share day for experienced practitioners.)

Sandeman House is a five minute walk from Waverley train station – you will find full directions from Waverley plus bus information and a map at
http://www.scottishbooktrust.com/contact#directions

Cost: £10 (this event has been heavily subsidised)
Lunch is not provided but tea and coffee will be available throughout the afternoon.

Watch out for details of an event focusing on roads to publication for poets, taking place at the CCA in Glasgow on 24 March 2012.
