Arts Council England Grants for the Arts Scheme
Deadline: Year round
In 2010 we will make some improvements to the Grants for the arts application process. These will include enhancing the way you can apply and establishing a central team with responsibility for assessment and monitoring.
In 2010 we will make some improvements to the Grants for the arts application process. These will include enhancing the way you can apply and establishing a central team with responsibility for assessment and monitoring.

There will be no changes to our eligibility criteria or to our assessment criteria for Grants for the arts.

The new processes will apply from 1 March 2010. The key points to note are:

    * you will be able to submit your application online. The online process will give support so that you can make sure your application is complete and eligible before you submit it. For example, the online system will check if your budget is balanced. The online application process will also allow us to make cost savings that can be reinvested into arts activity
    * we will aim to assess more applications within six weeks. All applications for £10,000 or less will have a decision within six weeks. Applications for more than £10,000 will have a decision within 12 weeks
    * applications will be assessed by a new Grants for the arts centre based in Manchester. This highly experienced team will use their art form expertise and comments from regional Arts Council colleagues and local authorities to assess applications. Final decisions on applications will continue to be made by local teams. Applications will continue to be assessed against the same eligibility and assessment criteria as they are now
    * awarded grants will be monitored by our Grants for the arts centre. If you already have a grant with us, we will notify you of any changes to your Arts Council lead officer in early 2010
    * advice will continue to be given by our Enquiries team and our regional offices. We will give clearer and consistent information on what support we can provide to applicants before they submit applications

Implementation

Our assessment and decision process will run continuously as we move to online applications and central assessment. However, in order to ensure the implementation is as efficient and seamless as possible, we will not be accepting new applications to Grants for the arts for a period of six weeks between Monday 18 January 2010 and Friday 26 February 2010. We will accept applications up to 5pm on Friday 15 January 2010. We will then start accepting applications again from Monday 1 March 2010.

If you are planning to submit an application during this six-week break, we would encourage you to think about whether you can submit your application earlier or later.

In our assessment and decision process we will consider whether there has been an impact on an application as a result of being submitted earlier - for example, the level to which a tour schedule is confirmed.
