This course is for writers with some experience. You may have attended our Beginning to write course, or have a body of work that you would like to develop. The course is also ideal for students who have recently finished a BA or MA in creative writing, and want a bit of a refresher, or further support to complete a collection of short stories, novel or memoir. Likewise, if you are considering applying for a Creative Writing MA, we can help you hone your portfolio.

In each session we will discuss published texts in detail, in relation to characterisation, place, plot and voice, focusing more closely on technique, looking at openings, endings and everything in between. We will respond to these texts in writing exercises, and will dedicate the second half of each session to discussing that experience, as well as critiquing work produced outside the class.

One-on-one tutorial time will be given to each class member. There will be some homework set, to develop work begun in class or in preparation for discussion. We will also hear from a literary agent, who will take questions from the group about submitting work.
