Young poets aged 10-13 are invited to write a poem on the theme of ‘place’ . Teachers can enter the whole class, pupils can enter individually. Enter by post or online. Deadline is 31st July.
The 2017 Betjeman Poetry Prize will be judged by Children's Laureate Chris Riddell and poet Rachel Rooney.
The top fifty poems are be printed in the BPP 2017 anthology. Six short-listed poets will be invited with their families and teachers to a prize giving on National Poetry Day, 28th September, in St Pancras Station, London, where the winner will be announced.
The winning poet receives £1000 (£500 for their school) and is crowned St Pancras Laureate for twelve months. The top three finalists win Eurostar tickets. All six finalists are invited on a 3-day poetry workshop in Spring 2018. Every teacher who enters a class will be entered in a draw to win a poet visit for the school.
