Masterclass: 'Keeping The Audience Awake' with Phil Porter
Mon 26 Oct 2015 to Mon 26 Oct 2015
Multi-award winning playwright and librettist Phil Porter leads an interactive masterclass exploring how we create engaging dialogue and dramatic surprises to keep our audience on the edge of their seats
This masterclass will address the writer's primary challenge - how to gain and keep an audience's attention. Participants will explore some of the technical aspects of writing dialogue, learning how to keep an audience engaged and active through the rhythm and content of the spoken word.

The session will also look at the concept of surprise, and how a writer can spring narrative and formal surprises to keep an audience engrossed. Phil will use examples from his own work and other contemporary plays. Writers will be expected to write and share as part of the session. This masterclass is suitable for writers of all levels of experience. It will be of particular relevance to playwrights, but will also be applicable for screenwriters and writers of prose.
