The New Librettist Conference is a day for absolutely anyone interested in opera making whether you're a creative writer who is curious about the form or you're already working within opera. Directors and composers who want to learn more about working with text and meet new collaborators are also welcome. During the day we will explore the craft of the librettist, the relationship between composer and director and new ways of working with opera and music theatre. We will be asking which stories opera now needs to tell and how we can enable more writers to write for opera.

The event features speakers including esteemed playwright Martin Crimp, translator Amanda Holden, Richard Thomas, famous for Jerry Springer: The Opera and Royal Opera House composer in Residence Phillip Venables.

The event also marks the launch of The Librettist Network, a new initiative helping writers to meet collaborators and develop their craft.
