The Writer's Flow: Road Block or Change of Direction?
Fri 16 Aug 2013 to Sun 18 Aug 2013
A two-day course that will help you make the change from blocked to flowing, and without the need for prune juice!
It's designed for people who've perhaps been writing for a number of years but feel blocked, both from placing their work and from writing itself.

Many writers fear getting 'writer's block'. This course approaches the subject from a different angle. Terry does not see writer's block as a single, obstructive phenomenon but more as a turning point not yet realised by the author.

Terry has worked with all kinds of writers, from literary to highly commercial and has noticed that, generally speaking, writers who make a living from their fiction don't tend to get blocked. Something about their attitude, habits and approaches ensures that they write continuously, quickly and productively. By contrast, there are certain beliefs held by the literary establishment about what constitutes real writing that can lead to serious author constipation, e.g. the more rewriting a story goes through, the better it will become.

This course, therefore, borrows from one 'side' to help the other. You will learn techniques and tips that will aid you in two ways: to get writing again and to sell your work. Even if your aim is to place a story in a top literary journal that doesn't pay a fee, the methods used by successful writers for marketing their work will help you achieve your goal.

The course covers:

• Why do I write? Producing dynamic and exciting objectives
• Exercises that free the flow
• One-to-one sessions with Terry
• Pitching your work
• The effective submissions package - query and cover letter, marketing points, synopsis
