The Poetry Society, NAWE, First Story and the University of Bolton are running a Skills Sharing Day aimed at writers who work in schools (any age range) and teachers with an interest in creative writing or who teach the subject
NAWE (National Association for Writers in Education), First Story and The Poetry Society are running a Skills Sharing Day at the University of Bolton on Saturday 4 July aimed at writers who work in primary and secondary schools and teachers with an interest in creative writing or who teach the subject.
This event provides a fantastic opportunity to come together with fellow writers and teachers to share valuable knowledge and experience. You will be able to take part in three practical, hands on prose or poetry workshops from a choice of 14 led by highly experienced writers and teachers. Topics include:
Story telling/listening/writing
Interactive storytelling
Creative story making
Rhyming comic poems
Performing poetry
Analysing text through movement
Using your local museum or art gallery to generate fiction
Celebrating LGBT histories and narratives within the London Metropolitan Archives
A sense of belonging and belongings
Engaging Roma and other EAL secondary school pupils in creative writing
Writing prompts
For teachers of the ‘A’ level in Creative Writing, there are specific sessions focusing on assessment, journals and commentaries, and encouraging experimentation in prose fiction. Each workshop will include exercises and ideas you can try with young people themselves.
Representatives from Arts Council England will also be there to offer individual advice on Grants for the Arts.
