Communications Manager
Deadline: Mon 7 Sep 2015
The Space is a Community Interest Company founded by Arts Council England and the BBC

Based in Birmingham, our mission is to develop and commission great art digitally by supporting artists and organisations to make the most of the opportunity that technology affords. We aim to increase the reach of existing activity in innovative ways, open up art to new audiences and explore the potential to create new artistic experiences using digital technology.

The Space provides funding, development support and a training programme to bridge the skills gaps that have been identified in the UK’s arts and cultural sector. We deliver our mission through three core areas of commissioning and development:

  • Digitally capturing and distributing the live arts experience for online audiences
  • Pioneering ideas to extend and deepen the impact of existing artists, exhibitions or artworks through the use of digital technology and creative use of archives
  • The creation of new ‘landmark’ works (i.e. works created specifically for the digital environment, which have interactivity and new approaches to story at their heart)

About the Role

We are recruiting a Communications Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Head of Audiences, this role will be responsible for The Space’s communications with the UK’s arts and cultural sector. You will manage The Space’s reputation and build awareness amongst artists and arts & cultural organisations of the opportunities we provide. You will also provide PR support to The Space’s commissions.

Experience required for this role includes: management of PR and online communications; management of organic and paid for social media activity; planning and delivering communications activities across a range of media; excellent copywriting skills.
