The Bloomsbury Festival is a free celebration that draws 50,000 people to London’s most inspiring cultural quarter

Do you have artistic flair? Programming expertise? Fundraising experience? Outstanding general management skills? If you answered ‘yes’ to all the above, we want to hear from you.

The place
Bloomsbury has a unique blend of academic institutions, museums, businesses, cultural organisations and diverse communities and gave its name to one of the most famous intellectual collectives of the 20th century. The area remains a melting pot of ideas, originality, new thought and creative practice – all of which make it an exceptional place in which to study, visit, work and live.

The Festival
Since 2006, we have inspired people to experience, enjoy and become part of Bloomsbury’s community of explorers, inventors, creators and freethinkers. An annual showcase of arts science, learning and commerce, the Festival celebrates the best of Bloomsbury and its people, past and present. The Festival moved from being run privately to becoming a charity in late 2012, with a new board of trustees in early 2013. That year saw 53,000 visitors attend 200 Festival events in 52 venues over six days.

The role
Following a review in 2014, the charity is launching a refreshed strategy supported by an able board. We now wish to appoint a leader who can develop and raise funds for the Festival’s 2015 artistic programme, retaining the best of our heritage and breaking new ground whilst strengthening our existing and developing new partnerships.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record in securing funds for similar cultural initiatives, an ability to shape a compelling artistic programme for diverse communities and strong general management skills.

We are seeking a leader who would be self-employed, working on a part-time basis for some of the year and full-on at other times (salary commensurate with experience).

The process:
