Milton Keynes Council Music Faculty is looking for an urban lyricist to work with local composer Sarah Watts

Project Summary

Milton Keynes Council Music Faculty is looking for an urban lyricist to work with local composer Sarah Watts to create words to go alongside a musical created for performance by young people of Milton Keynes based on Milton Keynes’ 50th Birthday.

Background

The Music Faculty works with around 2000 young people offering professional music tuition
through formal lessons, group work and school projects. We would like to commission a piece of music which the young people can perform both locally and nationally.

Commission Aim & Objectives

Aim: To work with composer Sarah Watts to add lyrics which are modern/contemporary for
young people

Outcomes

a) To deliver one performance at the 2017 Schools’ Music Festival with a band of live
musicians (possibly students and adults)
b) To attend one rehearsal to test the work, working with MKMF staff to ensure the work is
appropriately performed
c) To deliver a finished piece in collaboration with Sarah Watts (composer)

Budget

The Commission has a budget of £1,200 fully inclusive of artist fees

Selection Process

The commissioning panel will select their preferred artist from the following criteria:
a) Your experience of working on similar projects
b) Your style of work
c) Deliverability within the timescale

Timescales

This work must commence May 2016 and will run for 3-months. All work and evaluation must be completed by July 2016 or within a timescale agreed by Composer, Lyricist and Music Faculty

Submission of Proposal

The following documents must be provided by the closing date:
a) 2 examples of previous projects with basic information about each project (date, client, budget, materials, scale etc – as appropriate)
b) Proposal/methodology on what you intend to do
c) Your proposed timescale
d) Contact details (email and telephone) for 2 referees, stating what relationship exists between the artist and the referee

Submissions must be received by 5pm, April 30 2016 to music@milton-keynes.gov.uk
