Nottingham is planning to apply for UNESCO City of Literature accreditation. The bid team will be employing a part-time Research Assistant
The successful candidate will be responsible for gathering, collating and presenting information that is needed to support the bid, including demographic/geographic/economic information about Nottingham and the region, the literary heritage of the region, and contemporary literature-related activity and projects.
Role Description
This is a part-time fixed-term role, to run from November 17 2014, initially to December 31 2014. Hours may vary according to project needs, but will be between 16 and 24 hours per week. The appointment is on a freelance basis, at £12 per hour. The successful applicant will report to the Project Director. The role will include:
- Gathering information from online sources and physical/archive sources
- Identifying and soliciting relevant information from project partners
- Collating and analysing information
- Presenting information in a format suitable for direct input into the application
Person Description
- Research experience with the ability to identify and draw out key themes
- Experience of analysing both qualitative and quantitative data
- Ability to pull together information from diverse sources and produce accurate, coherent summaries
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Demonstrable interest in literature-related activities in Nottingham and beyond
- Ability to work as an individual for stretches of time, prioritising workload and carrying out tasks to deadlines and quality requirements
- Ability to work as part of a team, liaising with other project team members and taking on tasks as necessary
- A proactive approach, using initiative to gather information and make suggestions
Desirable experience:
- Experience of working within a cultural and/or arts-oriented environment
