Writers undertaking work in education are generally required to have an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau. When entering into a contract with a particular school or other institution, it may well be that the 'employer' makes a specific Disclosure Application on your behalf at the time. It is however useful for freelance writers to have an Enhanced Disclosure which they can present as and when necessary. An individual cannot make such an application themselves to the CRB but NAWE can make the application on behalf of a member.

If you are a Professional Member of NAWE and would like to take advantage of this service, please contact Clare Mallorie for a form. We will send it together with a guidance leaflet which spells out exactly what you need to do. Please do read the guidelines and complete your form carefully. Forms which are not completed correctly will not be processed by the CRB and therefore cause us considerable extra work. You must complete the form in block capitals and in black ink.

Once completed, please return the form to us, together with your cheque in the sum of £58 made payable to NAWE.

You will also need to enclose the original documents specified in the leaflet. If possible do please ensure that at least one of these documents is from Group 1 (passport or driving licence) otherwise there will be considerable delay in processing the form. We will keep the documents safely and return them to you promptly by secure post.

Please note: Government Policy changes frequently on this matter. As a Registered Body with the CRB, NAWE is kept fully informed of changes and will post updates here whenever necessary.
