I am Course Leader for the PGCE (Secondary) Performing Arts course at Liverpool Hope University and have used Mr. Standerline?s material on the course for several years. His version of Stone Cold is always popular with PGCE trainees and school students and is invariably a success in the classroom.
This year we were delighted to be able to invite him to conduct a workshop on the process of devising and structuring drama with PGCE Performing Arts and Drama trainees. His session was meticulously prepared, lucid, well structured and engaging. Trainees appreciated his clarity and humour and were impressed by his dynamic presentational style. Joe was able to respond to the needs of PGCE trainees, modeling good practice and professionalism in his delivery whilst introducing them to subject specialist approaches and teaching methods. Student evaluations rated Joe?s workshop very highly. They valued his approachable manner, his practical approach and his provision of strategies, techniques and resources which are of immediate and relevant use in the classroom. They commented that they had found the workshop inspirational, that they had learned a lot and were keen to try out the ideas for themselves.
Joe brought the knowledge, expertise and experience of a professional writer to the course, combined with the ability to make theory and practice accessible and fun. We hope that he will continue to contribute to the PGCE in the future and I am happy to recommend him to you in the highest possible terms.

Joe has acted as a freelance writing tutor on behalf of The Windows Project since July 2005. His solid publication list as an author, combined with his skills as a dramatist and actor meant he was well placed to join the pool of writers we have available to go to schools and libraries as a visiting author and creative writing workshop facilitator.
I have always found him to be reliable and professional in his approach to bookings, as well as being an engaging and inspiring creative writing tutor. The children have responded very well to him, and have been motivated to write themselves, even within a short one hour session. The feedback from teachers and students has been very positive:
?Joe delivered an excellent workshop and inspired some wonderful writing. A brilliant day was enjoyed by all. We would love to have him visit again? Frances Light, Fazakerley High School, Merseyside
?Joe had an excellent manner with the children and kept all the children on task for the whole session? N. Byrne, Linacre Primary School, Merseyside?
?Fun! Worth not skiving for? Yr12 student, Outward Grange School, Yorkshire.
Joe has also showed commitment and willingness to contribute to the development of the Windows Project as a member of the Windows Association by attending meetings here in Liverpool and sharing his perspective and experience as a published writer and performer with the other members.
I have no hesitation in recommending him for further employment in schools and colleges as a creative writing tutor. With his experience to date and ever increasing publication track record, I?m sure he will be an asset to your organisation.
