I am a novelist, a writer and an educator. I teach creative nonfiction and creative writing at universities and in community settings. In 2024 I set up IRLlit. We offer classes, courses and workshops in Creative Nonfiction for adults and kids after-school clubs. I provide book coaching, manyscript assesments and editorial services to writers of fiction and creative nonfiction. I have a PhD (DFA) in Creative Writing from the University of of Glasgow and a Recognised Excellence in Teaching Award (RET UKPSF) also from the University of Glasgow.

Book Coach/Editor:

I love the early development work; wide open and digging deep. This is when I help my writers get to grips with their concept, their themes, their character arcs and what it is they are really trying to say/do. Next is the first round of editing. This is structural; finding the order and form to build their narrative and express their ideas with clarity and momentum. Then there is the next round of editing work. Line-by-line, moving continually between the micro and the macro, until each paprgraph begins to sing. I work 1:1 with writers on their manuscripts, as an editor and/or book coach, specialising in life writing, creative nonfiction and contemporary/literary fiction.
