I am a Birmingham-based theatre writer with a background in Theatre-in-Education. I have written more than 40 plays, mainly for young audiences, for companies including Big Brum, Birmingham Rep, Language Alive, MAC, Greenwich Young People's Theatre, Moby Duck and Hanyong Theatre.
I have also worked regularly as a writer in schools over many years, largely through involvement with the Write On project, which has placed me on 3-4 residencies a year, specialising increasingly in Early Years and KS1 work.
I am never happier than when I am making up stories and poems with young people and children in the midlands.
Available for commissions, residencies, short or long projects in schools and early years settings. In schools, the drama is usually one of the means of inspiring writing, with young people likely to work on poetry and story forms rather than playscripts.
But I also like to share with children the work that I am currently doing, to give a sense of what the life of a writer involves. Since most of my work is for young audiences, this usually has some great advantages for me too, and the biggest pleasure with many residencies is sharing with a group the key moments of creating new work, both theirs and mine.
