writernet, in association with Reading Borough Council, is seeking four culturally diverse writers with talent and commitment to a career that involves writing for theatre, to undertake a playwriting development programme as part of the Hydroponic initiative.
The writers, to be drawn from across the UK, will each receive a play commission and be supported to the first draft stage. Between November 2004 and July 2005, they will have access to a specifically designed development programme based at South Street Arts Centre in Reading. Craft and skills acquisition, as well as the facilitation of career development through contact with industry professionals and networks, will culminate in showcase readings with feedback from producing companies.

You will need to have had at least one production of your work.

Hydroponic aims to be inclusive. As a first principle of empowerment for individual artists, you are invited to self define: you decide and articulate how you meet the remit of cultural diversity.

Hydroponic adheres to the social model of disability. All access needs will be catered for.

Please send:
- a letter of application outlining how you might use this opportunity,
- a completed play, or 3 samples of work (30 pages maximum), - a paragraph on the script you could imagine developing as part of Hydroponic,
