Fri 13 Feb 2004
The second in the current series of Writing Together conferences took place at Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, on Thursday 12 February.
The conference was attended by over a hundred secondary school teachers who work at Key Stage 3. Workshops were run by Mandy Coe, Levi Tafari, Helen Whitehead and Alan Gibbons. The keynote speech was given (in interview form) by Simon Armitage. Mandy Coe also delivered a detailed account of her recent work with Walkden High School at Manchester City Art Gallery, which was sponsored by Writing Together. A report of this residency is available from NAWE.
A panel session took teachers through the practicalities of planning and delivering a writer's residency, with input from Paul Munden (NAWE), Frank Geary (Poetry Society) and Abigail Campbell (Arts Council England).
Every teacher attending the conference was able to pick up a cheque towards the cost of a writer's placement in their school.
