Young People & Writing Survey
Fri 19 Sep 2008
NAWE and consultant Beverley Ward are consulting people about a development plan for young people and writing in Yorkshire, commissioned by Arts Council England. We have already had over 40 responses from young people in the region, and now are consulting adults who work with young people aged 5 - 25yrs.

It is really important that NAWE members who work with young people are represented in this work, and we would like to hear your views if you work in Yorkshire.  Do please complete the survey by Wednesday 19 November, by following this link.

We are aiming to conduct a research and consultation process that results in a development plan for creative writing and young people in the Yorkshire region that is ambitious, visionary and wide-ranging.

The partnership between NAWE and creative consultant Beverley Ward also aims to create a sense of ownership by young people and leading organizations in the region.

Our objectives are:
  • To achieve long term sustainability of current and future work
  • To celebrate current strengths in the region and exploit future potential so that young people can flourish as writers in the region
  • To encourage closer links between current and potential partners and collaborative ways of working between organisations and young people themselves
  • To raise the profile of this work and build capacity in this field
  • To locate the work in the current context of arts and young people regionally, nationally and internationally
Work with young writers in the region to date has been characterised by adventurous thinking and we would hope that any future plans are similarly ambitious, not only extending the reach of current initiatives but also taking them to a new level. The consultancy represents an exceptional opportunity to think radically about the development of young people's skills and the deployment of supporting resources.

A discussion of our draft plan will take place during the NAWE Conference.
