Poems for Children
Mon 24 Nov 2008
Forty-one poets, including Children's Laureate, Michael Rosen, Roger McGough, and Jenny Joseph, have recorded a poetry anthology CD for Oxfam. Poems for Children is a celebration of poetry for children that all listeners can enjoy.

The poets who contributed to the CD all gave their time and work for free. Twenty-two of them recorded together at the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, London. In Michael Rosen's words: 'Oxfam have assembled more poets who write for children than have ever been squeezed together in the history of the universe. The result will, without doubt, be a stunning display of dreams, fun, fantasy and reflection. Truly a historic moment for poets and listeners alike.'

All the pictures used on the front of the CD and in the booklet were drawn and painted by children. We ran a competition and got over a thousand entries, from which we picked the 26 winning pictures used in the booklet. The overall winner was eight-year-old Millie Smart, from Wellington, Somerset, whose delightful picture of the sun is used on the front of the CD.

The anthology was edited by Judith Nicholls and Todd Swift, who is Oxfam's Poet in Residence.

The CD is available from all Oxfam bookshops, priced at £4.99. To find your nearest, use our shopfinder. If you do not have a bookshop nearby, please contact Shop Support on 0300 2001 333 support@oxfam.org.uk to find your nearest stockist. You can also buy online.
