There are still places left on this excellent new course on working in museums and art galleries, developed for NAWE by Victoria Field. It is being held in a stunning location and lunch is provided.

Outline of the Day 

Museums and art galleries offer a rich source of material to stimulate creative writing in a variety
of genres.  This seminar will offer practical examples of writing in response to collections and use
these as a basis for developing workshops with a wide range of client groups, including school
students.  There will be opportunities to look at the logistics of working in museums and art
galleries and how to plan and deliver a successful workshop in partnership with different
agencies.  
 
Aims 
  • To provide an introduction to working in museums and art galleries using writing
  • To encourage the development of inspirational, stimulating writing activities for different client groups
  • To explore how to set up work within these fields
Who For 

Writers and student-writers of all genres who wish to develop educational work in partnership with
museums and art galleries. This could include those experienced in working in another field and those who are new to this
area of work. 
 
Draft Programme 

Morning

10.00am   Writing exercises and activities based on collections - these will be experiential and used for discussion

11.45am  Writing from the perspective of museums and galleries - their policies and priorities with specific examples
 
12.30pm  Lunch 

1.30pm   Planning work in museums and galleries to include: working with different participant needs and expectations

Tutor 

Victoria Field is a writer, poetry therapist and small press publisher.  She works in a wide variety
of education and health and social care settings using writing to promote health and well-being. 
She has co-edited two books on therapeutic writing.  She was writer-in-residence at Truro
Cathedral in 2006 which involved working with the community and resulted in a poetry collection
Many Waters. Hall for Cornwall has produced two of her plays.
