Several NAWE members are amongst the 73 writers and artists producing their own black pages for the latest exhibition at Shandy Hall, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the publication of the first two volumes of Tristram Shandy. Maura Dooley, Felix Bennett, Paul Munden, Jo Shapcott and Carolyn Thompson will have their black pages exhibited together with those by a very wide range of other writers and artists including Graham Swift, JM Coetzee, Harrison Birtwistle and Rachel Whiteread.
A total of 73 new 'interpretations' have been produced of what was page 73 in the original publication - a radical, visual intervention that follows the words 'Alas, poor Yorick!' All pages are being auctioned - anonymously - with a starting price of £73.
For further details and a full list of writers and artists represented, visit
www.laurencesternetrust.org.uk. All the pages will be viewable online, where the bidding will also be conducted.
The exhibition opens on 5 September (1-4pm) in the Shandy Hall Gallery, Coxwold. It then runs until 31 October, 11am-4pm every day except Saturdays.
Adam Thirlwell, who is a contributor, will also be giving the annual Sterne Lecture in Coxwold Village Hall, Thursday 24 September, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £4.
