Renewal & Resilience: Creative Writing in Education and Communities in 2022 and Beyond

10 - 12 March 2022, Online

The NAWE Conference is the annual event devoted to exploring creative writing and the teaching of creative writing in schools, communities and FE and HE settings. Next year’s conference takes place online from Thursday 10 to Saturday 12 March 2022 and will see a mix of curated strands programmed alongside submissions from NAWE members and non-members.

We invite proposals that consider the theme of renewal and resilience in creative writing and teaching practice at all levels, and in all settings. We want to hear about your projects, research and creative writing pedagogies, and how you’re teaching, researching and studying creative writing in 2021/22.

We’re interested in hearing from members, non-members, writers, tutors, teachers, arts practitioners and anyone who teaches, studies, or organises creative writing in education.

Key questions might include:
• How can we build resilience in ourselves and in the communities in which we write, study and teach?
• How can we build more inclusive communities of practice?
• How can we adapt to meet rising inequalities faced by children, young people and adults – inequalities of mental health, dis/ability, gender, race and class?
• What can we do to look after our own wellbeing, and safeguard that of our students?
• How can writers/educators meet the threat of climate change?
• How can we respond to changes in the way the arts and humanities are funded?
• How can we find balance in our lives and continue to explore new opportunities?
• How can we find our way as writers and creative writing teachers, so that we are not just surviving but thriving?

Proposals should consist of a brief (100 word) outline, exactly as you would wish the session to be described in the programme, plus biographical information on all presenters (50 words each). We welcome proposals for 30 minute presentations or 50 minute workshop or panel sessions. Space will be limited, so early submission is encouraged.

All speakers presenting at the conference will need to register as delegates at a discounted rate. (We will have a limited number of free/discounted places available for those who would otherwise not be able to attend.)

Deadline for proposals: 1 November 2021

UPDATE: Many thanks to everyone who has submitted a proposal. We received a large number of high quality submissions and will be back in touch with everyone by the end of the month.

Submit your proposal here via Submittable.
