WRITING IN PRACTICE VOL 11

ABSTRACT
This study considers the short story form in depicting minority cultures. It first looks into the relationship that the short story typically has with place and investigates the reader’s role in unpicking the significance of geographical locations in short fiction. The concept of the short story cycle is then introduced and through examples of my own work, as well as Jhumpa Lahiri’s Interpreter of Maladies, I consider ways by which this form can foreground the nuances of minority cultures, with specific consideration given to the depiction of Maltese lives.
