Creative Writing and History

Perfect your writing skills alongside the investigative skills of an historian. History topics you can study include medieval British history, the Elizabethan aristocracy and life in 17th century England and Wales. We’ll teach you how drafting, editing and polishing creative copy are all closely interlinked. You’ll learn how being self-critical of your work is one of the best editing tools for you as a writer.
Duration Full-time Three years. Part-time: Five to six years
Level BA Combined Hons
Cost UK/EU Full Time Tuition Fees 2012/13: £5,850. Part Time: £1,245. Overseas: To Be Confirmed.

Assessment by portfolio, including elements of narrative, drama and poetry. In the later stage of the course you will assessed on an extended project. We’ll show you how you can improve your writing by responding positively to editorial comments as well. Writers need to be diverse enough to adapt to all sorts of writing styles and formats. Weekly workshops held as part of the course provide the perfect opportunity to practise. By the end of the course you’ll be able to turn your hand to anything - short stories and novels for children, adults and teenagers, life writing and poetry. We’ll also show you how to write for radio, TV and cinema.
