2020 Northern Book Prize: Open for entries
Deadline: Mon 16 Dec 2019
The Northern Book Prize is an annual prize awarded to an unpublished book-length work of ambitious literary fiction either written by a writer living in the North of England or by a writer who has a strong connection to the North.
To be considered, work does not have to be of a ‘Northern’ flavour or have a ‘Northern’ theme, although what ‘Northern’ means to different writers is one of many questions writers may be asking.
In two innovations for 2020, the prize is now open to narrative and literary kinds of non-fiction too and entry is now free.
The winner of the Northern Book Prize receives:
Prize and advance (currently worth £5,000)
Creative editorial support from And Other Stories
A contract for the book’s worldwide publication, distribution and representation from And Other Stories
Judges: Amy Arnold, whose novel Slip of a Fish won the 2018 Northern Book Prize, Sunjeev Sahota, Daniel Trilling, and Tara Tobler of And Other Stories.
Media partner: Big Issue North
