Bristol Short Story Prize 2026 Now Open!

Calling all writers and writing groups! Submit your short stories to the Bristol Short Story Prize 2026. We accept entries of up to 4,000 words from any genre and from published and unpublished authors alike. Enter by 31 January 2026 for the chance to win £1,500 and publication in the Bristol Short Story anthology.

The Bristol Short Story Prize was founded in 2007 by the editors of Bristol quarterly magazine, Bristol Review of Books. Since 2024, the Prize has been hosted by the Department of English at the University of Bristol.

All shortlisted entries will receive £50, be published in our print anthology and receive a free copy.

1st Prize: £1500
2nd Prize: £500
3rd Prize: £250

The entry fee is £14 per story, with up to 75 low-income entries available each month.

This year's judges are Celeste Mohammed, Daisy Johnson, Claire Carroll, Michael Kalisch and Zakiya McKenzie.
