Chalk Circle Short Story Competition 2026

Submissions are invited on any theme or genre except children’s fiction for this year's Chalk Circle Short Story Competition comprising The Chalk Circle 1500 and The Chalk Circle 360.
Judges are looking for good story telling above all else. Winning stories published in full on the Chalk Circle website.
The Chalk Circle 1500
£200 Prize - £10 Entry Fee
A conventional short story in 1,500 words maximum.
The Chalk Circle 360
£50 Prize - £7 Entry Fee
A circular flash fiction in 360 words exactly (excluding title). Like the ancient icon Ouroboros, the serpent that devours its own tail, your story should turn 360 degrees. Writers may draw inspiration from symbolic Ouroboros features like self-reflection; recycling and renewal; assimilation of opposites and cycles of continuing creation and destruction.
Multiple submissions allowed.
