This screenwriting scholarship will enable a talented writer of colour with limited financial means to join our eighteen-week Writing an Original TV Drama Serial course in London (10 October 2022 to 27 February 2023).
One talented writer of colour with limited financial means will receive a fully paid place on this course, led by award-winning writer, producer and director Jamie Nuttgens, with tutorials given by script editor Clare Alan and six masterclasses with leading TV professionals.
Travel Stipend: The scholarship winner will be given a travel stipend (up to the value of £250) to contribute to the cost of travelling to attend classes in central London.
Final Draft: The scholar will also receive a digital download of the latest version of the premier screenwriting software Final Draft (worth £181).
This scholarship is part of our Breakthrough Writers’ Programme, a major outreach programme which offers opportunities to under-represented writers. We are keen to promote diversity in our student groups and to enable talented writers to join our courses who we might not otherwise have heard from.
You don't need a degree or any experience of the TV industry to apply for this scholarship: If you a have good idea, the desire to write television drama and to learn – and if you’re a writer of colour without the financial means to attend a Curtis Brown Creative course, this scholarship opportunity is for you.
This scholarship is open to writers of colour over the age of 18 who fulfil our low-income eligibility criteria.
Applicants must have one of the following categories of ethnicity: East Asian (Chinese; Japanese); South Asian (Indian; Pakistani; Bangladeshi); Southeast Asian (Vietnamese; Korean; Filipino); any other Asian background; Black African; Black Caribbean; Black Other; Mixed – White and Asian; Mixed – White and Black Caribbean; Mixed – White and Black African; any other mixed background from more than one group; or any other background by which you identify as a person of colour.
