Edwin Morgan Poetry Award 2026

Open to poets under 30 who were born, raised or currently live in Scotland and have not yet published a full-length collection, the Edwin Morgan Poetry Award rewards outstanding promise with a £20,000 prize.
Conceived by Edwin Morgan, the first Scottish Makar (National Poet of Scotland), the Edwin Morgan Poetry Award (EMPA) reflects his lifelong commitment to supporting Scottish poets. Inaugurated in 2014, the EMPA rewards outstanding promise by providing financial support to help young, emerging poets develop their first collection of poems. The £20,000 prize may be shared between up to four poets.
Eligibility
You are eligible to enter if you:
— are under 30 at the closing date for submissions (i.e. 30 March 2026)
— were born in Scotland, raised in Scotland, or currently live in Scotland
— have not published a full-length collection or had one accepted for publication at the time of your submission
Submissions should include up to 10 unpublished poems, totalling no more than 12 pages or 12 minutes. Submissions can be in English, Scots, or Gaelic.
