English: Shared Futures 2020: Final Call for Panels and Papers - Extended Deadline
Deadline: Mon 21 Oct 2019
Proposals for panels and papers across the discipline are invited for this major conference celebrating the intellectual strength, diversity, and creativity of English language, literature, and creative writing in the UK and across the world, taking place in Manchester/Salford in June 2020. Alternative forms of engagement, such as ‘research in progress’ sessions, dialogues, shared readings, pop-up workshops, masterclasses and roundtables welcomed. Deadline extended to 21 October 2019.

Here are some of the things we would be keen to see:

• Showcases (two or three papers of recent work from your field, from your institute or from your learned society, ideally a mix of career stages)
• Conference highlights (if you have run a conference in the last 12 months, or in the next 9 months, we’d be interested to hear some key papers: ESF offers wide dissemination across the discipline)
• Project highlights (disseminating work from a funded project to a national, discipline-wide audience)
• Book panels (discussing a significant recent work in your field, perhaps involving the author as a respondent)
• Developing projects and ideas (Workshopping)
• Debates in your field: a staged conversation or dialogue
• Practice and response (from CW and others)

Our plenaries will be: Kate Clanchy, MBE, award-winning poet and teacher; Professor Lyndsey Stonebridge, Professor of Humanities and Human Rights; and a panel of Professor Devyani Sharma, Professor Jennifer Smith and Professor David Adger.

We're also delighted to announce that Ali Smith will be speaking at the conference, and that there will also be an extensive series of literary fringe events too.

On the Saturday, there will be a special focus on the link between secondary and higher education.

English: Shared Futures 2020 is taking place in Manchester/Salford from Friday 26 - Sunday 28 June 2020. Bursaries available.
