Freedom From Torture Poetry Competition
Deadline: Sat 31 Oct 2020
Our biennial literary festival will be online this year and to celebrate it, we're launching our first ever poetry competition. The subject is Resilience, and our distinguished judging panel is chaired by Daljit Nagra, with Ian McMillan, Imtiaz Dharker and Inua Ellams.
Poems can be any length and style.
Prizes
First prize: have your poem performed by actor Samuel West on his Pandemic Poems radio show and featured in Aesthetica Magazine online.
All winners will be able to film themselves performing their poem OR have it read and performed for them by our award-winning poets and have it broadcast live at our virtual event on 25 November alongside other literary stars. All winners will also have their poem featured on Freedom from Torture’s website.
All winners will receive a selection of books from publishers including The Folio Society and Penguin.
Entry fee £5. If you have lived experience as a refugee or asylum seeker, you can enter for free.
Funds raised will support creative group projects for survivors such as art, music and our creative writing group Write to Life, which is the longest-running refugee writing group in Britain, and the only one specifically for survivors of torture.
