Gladfest: Writing Competition 2026

Gladstone’s Library has announced a new writing competition as part of its Gladfest 2026 month-long festival, championing new voices, emerging talent and writers who are yet to be published!
Eligibility: You must be aged 18 years or older on Monday 31st August 2026 (when the competition closes) and a resident of the UK (including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man).
Entrants should submit up to 5000 words. This should either be complete short story, or the first 5000 words of a longer piece of work. There are no limitations on genre.
The prize to the one winner will include a two-night stay at Gladstone’s Library. Prizes will also be awarded to the two non-winning finalists.
Entry fee: £7 / £10 which includes a £3 donation to Gladstone’s Library
