Just Poetry, a collective featuring climate justice through verse, invites entries of unpublished poems in any language of no more than 40 lines on the theme of Rest. Open to entrants all over the world.
In collaboration with the KlimaSeniorinnen, Just poetry is curating a pamphlet in honour of these remarkable women, centring a consideration at the heart of their process and practice: Rest.
Rest will be a poetry pamphlet that centres iterations, in verse, of feelings, articulations, conceptualisations and gestures toward respite as intentional acts of resistance. In a world that privileges advancement, growth and speed as manifestations of progress, predominantly as evidence of profit-seeking actualisation, the contributions in this collection ask the reader to consider the value of the opposite.
At the heart of this project is a thoughtful interrogation of the notion of time: analog making as a way of marking time; time as personal and political as opposed to belonging to the state or industry; collaborative spaces as holders of shared time; poetic technique - repetition, rhyme, rhythm, line breaks, white space - as manifestations of time with inherent, non-discursive meaning; ephemerality as an act of beauty and defiance; handwriting as self-care and art; human-authorship as resistance; marginalia as co-creation; early drafts as witness; discarded material as testimony.
