The National Writing Squad is a unique opportunity for 14 young emerging writers in Wales aged 16-18 to develop their craft, connect with professional mentors, and be part of a vibrant creative community.
What’s in it for you?
As a Squad member, you’ll:
Work closely with published writers and creative mentors.
Take part in exclusive workshops, residencies, and events.
Share your work with peers and professionals.
Build confidence and develop your unique writing voice.
Who can apply?
Young people aged 16–18 living in Wales, writing in English, Welsh, or bilingually.
No formal experience needed nor accurate grammar and spelling—just creativity, enthusiasm, and a commitment to creating stories. We’re particularly interested in hearing from underrepresented voices and from individuals who rarely see people like themselves reflected in the books they read.
This programme is supported by Arts & Business Cymru’s Culture Step Programme and Cardiff University’s School of English, Communication and Philosophy.
