Mslexia Women's Fiction Competition 2026

The Mslexia fiction competition is open with categories for novel, short story, and flash fiction. The judges this year are Sarah Moss, Ingrid Persaud, and Sherrie Flick respectively. The winning entry receives £5,000 for novel, £3,000 for short story and £1,000 for flash fiction, as well as a host of other prizes including publication and feedback.
Open to all women of any age of any nationality from any country.
Women's Fiction Competition 2026 - Short Story
1st prize £3,000. Three additional finalists will each receive £150 and all four winning entries are published in Issue 112 of Mslexia. Winning entries plus eight more shortlisted entries will receive £75 and be published in Mslexia's ebook anthology Best Women's Short Fiction 2026. Entry fee: £14. Deadline: 23.59 GMT on 21 September 2026.
Women's Fiction Competition 2026 - Flash Fiction
1st prize £1,000. Three additional finalists each receive £100 and all four winning entries are published in Issue 112 of Mslexia. Eight additional shortlistees will recieve £50, plus publication in Mslexia's ebook anthology Best Women's Short Fiction 2026 alongside our winner and finalists. Entry fee: £8. Deadline: 23.59 GMT on 21 September 2026.
Women's Fiction Competition 2026 - Novel
1st prize £5,000. Finalists receive manuscript feedback from The Literary Consultancy and personal introductions to literary agents arranged in partnership with New Writing North. For novels of at least 50,000 words in any genre for adult, or young adult, readers. Submit first 5,000 words only in the first instance. Longlisted entrants will be asked to submit their finished manuscripts along with a synopsis later in the judging process. Entry fee: £28. Deadline: 23.59 GMT on 21 September 2026.
