Applications are open for our Play Development Bursaries, offering professional playwrights based in Scotland the time, space and support to create the first draft of a brand new play.
These bursaries are designed to give writers the momentum to invest deeply in a new idea, especially one they may not otherwise have the opportunity to explore. Over the course of a year, each selected playwright receives a blend of financial support, creative development support, and access to industry insight and creative community to help them take their idea confidently to first draft stage.
The package also includes a £4,305 fee, equivalent to a first draft commission under the Scottish Society of Playwrights/Federation of Scottish Theatre agreement. Writers also receive a week long writing retreat at Cove Park (or an equivalent venue), with travel and a daily food allowance covered.Each bursary also includes three two-hour development sessions with an Associate Playwright or external theatre professional, tailored to the needs of the writer and their script.
