This is a great opportunity for 16 Black, Asian and ethnically diverse/BPOC writers living in Ghana or who are of Ghanaian descent living in the UK, to develop their writing practice with a range of professional writers, who will provide an online programme of creative writing workshops, editorial feedback and mentoring support, as well as peer-led writers groups, from September to December 2026.

The cohort will be formed of 16 participants: 8 writers of Ghanaian descent in the UK and 8 writers in Ghana.

The Covert Talent Development Programme will include:

Four online creative writing workshops
Four online writers’ groups
One online mentoring session
Publication in this year’s special Covert Literary Magazine Issue 7, themed ‘Ghana’, produced in partnership with Writers Project of Ghana, which aims to showcase and nurture the talent of people living in Ghana or of Ghanaian descent living in the UK.

We ask that UK participants contribute from £100-£25 towards the cost of running the programme so that we can make the programme and magazine sustainable in the long run. All places are heavily subsidised by our ACE NPO funding, and Ghana places are fully funded by our Beyond Literature Borders grant.
