Arvon at Home Writing Week: Poetry - Writing Poems During Difficult Times with Malika Booker and Peter Sansom
Mon 3 May 2021 to Fri 7 May 2021
From journal to writing exercises, often drawing on classic and contemporary poems, we will produce a body of work, develop our poetics, and crucially find new ways of dealing with difficult material.

We will also open our creative process through close reading and sharing our poetry enthusiasms with others.

Though rigorous, this will be a warm and friendly course with the opportunity to have breaks and creative off-screen time.

Come prepared to fill those blank pages by trusting the process and finding new ways into your writing practice.

Malika Booker is a poetry Lecturer at Manchester University, a British poet of Guyanese and Grenadian Parentage and the founder of Malika’s Poetry Kitchen.  Malika was awarded the Cholmondeley Award (2019) and won The Forward Poetry Prize for Best Single Poem (2020).

Peter Sansom’s six books for Carcanet include a Selected Poems. Writing Poems is published by Bloodaxe. With Ann Sansom he is a co-director of The Poetry Business in Sheffield. He has taught poetry at Huddersfield, Leeds and Manchester universities.

As part of our wider effort to increase participation in the arts, there are a limited number of concessionary places available for this course.
