Arvon Online 5-Week Evening Course: Writing for Teens with Steve Voake and Sophie McKenzie
Mon 9 Oct 2023 to Mon 6 Nov 2023
How to spark and sustain a novel for teens. This is an evening course for writers who are seriously interested in writing fiction for teenagers.

Tutored by Steve Voake and Sophie McKenzie, you will cover topics such as characterisation, openings, plot structure, conflict, viewpoint and voice.

Using a combination of practical writing exercises, discussion and individual tutorials, this course will help you find ideas and begin to develop these ideas into stories for teen readers

Steve Voake is the award-winning author of more than 20 books for young people including The Dreamwalker’s Child, The Starlight Conspiracy and Blood Hunters. He was longlisted for the University of Canberra Vice-Chancellor’s International Poetry Prize, has experience as a headteacher in Somerset and has taught a writing master class for the Guardian. He was Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University for 17 years.

Sophie McKenzie is the award-winning author of over thirty books, including teen thrillers Girl, Missing, Split Second and Blood Ties – all of which have won the Red House Children’s Book Award. In addition to sequels to the above titles, Sophie has written a number of teen standalone novels, plus two short books for World Book Day, the six-book Medusa Project series and two teen romance series – as well as several stories for younger children and four psychological thrillers for adult readers. Sophie teaches creative writing at the City Literary Institute and offers private online tutoring through her www.storystepslondon.com website.
