Authors North - Writing Science into Fiction
Sat 12 Oct 2019 to Sat 12 Oct 2019
Forensics or ballistics. Climate change, surveillance or nanotechnology. How far will you go to get the science right when you write? Join us in Durham for our autumn Authors North event for a day dedicated to the physics, chemistry and biology of your work. Open to non-Society of Author members.

Whether you write crime, drama or intergalactic space opera, or you simply want to ground your characters in a more authentic world, this is a valuable opportunity to hear from authors, scientists and publishers offering industry insights and practical advice on research methods and developing the science in your work.

We’ll be joined by a host of speakers including author and computational neuroscientist Dr Emma Byrne, academic and science fiction fan Dr Will Slocombe, Commissioning Editor at Hodderscape Sam Bradbury, founder of Luna Press Publishing Francesca T. Barbini, and founder of Comma Press Ra Page.

Author Sarah Schofield will discuss science and the short story, and scriptwriter Greg Buchanan and author and animator Niel Bushnell share advice for taking your work beyond the book.

Date: Saturday 12 October 2019
Location: Durham School Lunch and refreshments are provided and there will be plenty of opportunities for networking throughout the day.
