Brunel University Webinars Summer 2025

This summer, Brunel University of London is supporting as many aspiring writers as possible through a series of free writing workshops, and a webinar series offering publishing insights, craft advice and preparing work for submission to publishers, publications, agents and competitions – including the newly launched Nero New Writers Prize in association with Brunel University of London.

Meet the Editors: Brunel University Webinar

Our first webinar is Meet the Editors. Our panel of superstar editors consists of Katie Bowden (Editorial Director, Fourth Estate), Sam Jordison (Co-Director of Galley Beggar Press) and Joelle Owusu (Editorial Director, #Merky Books). They will be sharing their insights on what publishers are looking for in new writers, offering advice on developing your manuscript for submission, and answering your questions about the editorial process. The panel will be moderated by Helen Cullen (author and Reader in Creative Writing at Brunel).

Meet the Literary Agents: Brunel University Webinar

Our second webinar gives you the opportunity to Meet the Literary Agents.Our panel of industry leading literary agents consists of Emma Bal (Non-Fiction Literary Agent, Madeleine Milburn), Sam Copeland (Director and Literary Agent, RCW), and Laurie Robertson (Literary Agent, PFD). They will be explaining the role of the literary agent, offering their advice on submissions and choosing the right agent for you, sharing their insights on the publishing industry today, and answering all of your questions. The panel will be moderated by Helen Cullen (author and Reader in Creative Writing at Brunel).

Submitting to Literary Journals: Brunel University Webinar

Our third webinar focuses on Submitting Work to Literary Journals. Our panel consists of three editors from some of the most critically acclaimed literary journals in the UK and Ireland that collectively publish a diverse portfolio of creative writing: Lisa McInerney (Editor, Stinging Fly Magazine), Sana Goyal, (Editor and Publishing Director of Wasafiri) and Steven O’Brien (Editor of The London Magazine). These editors will be introducing their literary journals, offering their advice on submissions, sharing their insights on editing work in advance of submitting, and answering all your questions. The panel will be moderated by Helen Cullen (author and Reader in Creative Writing at Brunel).
